Account Deletion Request
Effective date: September 13, 2026
App: Bao Budget (Bao & the Grove) Developer: NAS Innovation LLC, a Massachusetts limited liability company
NAS Innovation LLC, 82 Wendell Ave Ste 100, Pittsfield, MA 01201
Delete your Bao Budget account
You can delete your Bao Budget account and the data associated with it at any time. There are two ways.
1. In the app (fastest)
Open Settings → Account → Delete account. You will be asked to type DELETE and your account email
address to confirm. If you have set up a second authentication factor, you will be asked for it.
2. By email
Write to privacy@baobudget.com from the email address on your account, and ask us to delete it. We will verify that you control the account before we act. If you no longer have access to that email address, tell us and we will find another way to verify you.
There is no charge, and you do not need an active subscription to ask.
What happens, and how long it takes
- Immediately. Your account is closed. You lose access, and we stop using your data to run the service.
- Immediately. We ask Quiltt, our bank-connection provider, to revoke our access to any financial institution you connected. This is best-effort: we make the call, and if Quiltt is unreachable at that moment it may need to be retried. You can also revoke our access directly with your bank.
- After 30 days. Your data is permanently deleted and cascaded away across our systems. The 30-day window exists so that an accidental — or coerced — deletion can be undone.
If you ask us by email, we will start the same process promptly after we have verified you, and the 30-day clock runs from then.
What is deleted
Everything we hold that is about you and your money, including:
- your profile, email address, password, and authentication settings
- your connected institutions, accounts, balances, and transaction history
- your budgets, goals, contributions, rules, categories, and notes
- your notifications, achievements, streaks, leaderboard entries, and share cards
- your subscription record with us
What is retained, and why
- Security audit records are tombstoned, not erased. Our security log is append-only and hash-chained, which is what makes it useful for detecting tampering. On deletion we replace the personal content of your entries with a tombstone — the entry remains as a record that something happened at a point in the chain, without your personal information in it. Erasing the rows outright would break the chain and destroy the integrity property for every other user. Reason: security and fraud prevention.
- Records we are legally required to keep. Billing and tax records associated with payments, and anything covered by a legal hold — a live dispute, an investigation, or a preservation obligation — are retained for as long as the law requires. A legal hold defers the permanent deletion of the data it covers; it does not cancel it. We re-check for holds at the moment the permanent deletion runs, and the data is deleted once the hold ends. Reason: legal and regulatory compliance.
- A record that you had a free trial. To keep free trials to one per person, we keep a keyed one-way hash of the email address used for a trial together with the trial's dates and outcome, for up to 24 months after the trial ends. Not every record has the payment-method half. These records are not deleted when your account is deleted — if they were, the same email address could take another free trial the next day. The hashes cannot be reversed to recover your email address or your card. Reason: fraud prevention.
- Payment records held by Stripe. Stripe processes our subscription payments and keeps its own transaction records under its own retention obligations. We never hold your card details.
- Aggregate and de-identified counts that are not linked to you and cannot be used to identify you.
- Data held by your bank or by Quiltt. Deleting your Bao Budget account removes your data from Bao Budget. It does not delete records your bank or Quiltt keep under their own policies. Quiltt's policies: https://quiltt.io/legal/.
We do not sell your data, and we do not keep a copy for marketing after you delete.
Your subscription
Deleting your account cancels your Stripe subscription. We cancel it when you make the request, so billing stops — you do not have to cancel separately first. If Stripe is unreachable at that moment the cancellation may need to be retried; if you are ever billed after requesting deletion, write to support@baobudget.com and we will sort it out.
Cancelling is not a refund. Subscriptions are non-refundable except where our Cancellation and Refund Policy says otherwise. We also keep your Stripe customer record after deletion, because tax records, refunds and chargebacks depend on it. Reason: legal and regulatory compliance.
